What You'll Find Here

IPI staff has identified and rated hundreds of free-access websites that provide background, performance information or report cards about different types of health care facilities and professionals – beginning with nursing homes and physicians, and moving to hospitals and other providers in the future. Some of these websites include information about the quality of care provided (such as the number of residents in a particular nursing home who have bed sores), whether patients were satisfied with the care received, how much the care costs, or how many complaints have been filed against the provider. Some also include helpful information such as what to look for when choosing a particular type of health care provider.

IPI does not rate individual health facilities or professionals, but rather identifies and rates the websites that do provide that information. IPI lets you know what each site does well and where it could be improved, and provides quick access to the sites.

We also provide Tip Sheets about what to do if you have a concern about quality in a hospital, nursing home or physician's office. They include practical advice about steps to take including phone numbers, addresses and links to resources that can help.
